Better Questions

  • How many retweets have I got?
  • How can I improve my serve?
  • Are my toes normal?
  • Has Jennifer Aniston found true love?
  • Does this make my bum look big?

Questions that might be:

  • What is God up to in your life, right now?
  • What moves you?  What makes you excited?
  • Who is your inspiration?
  • What gifts has God given you – and how are you using them? What are you dreaming about?
  • Who are you comparing yourself to? Your friends? Celebrities? Those who have much less?
  • Is ‘everyone’ doing much better than you? According to what criteria? Money?  Approval?  A House?  A Relationship?
  • If you had these things, what would change? What do they offer which God isn’t providing? And what would you do if you lost them?
  • How would you live differently if you knew the gospel was true?
  • What stops you from living life now?
  • What are you afraid of?
  • What’s worse – failing at something, or not trying?
  • Who are the people you love most? How are you nurturing these relationships?
  • What is it about your friends that feeds you: and how do you thank them?
  • Forget your birth certificate.  How old are you now?
  • Who do you know who needs encouraging?  How can you help them see themselves as Christ does?
  • What mistakes have you made?  How has God taught you through these?
  • What do you hide behind?
  • What do you pretend not to know?
  • What are you holding onto that God needs to take? What’s stopping you from giving it to Him?
  • What’s the one bit of advice you would give to your 13 year-old self?
  • How does being a Christian change this week?
  • What do you love most about Jesus?

    Not sure if you believe I’m me, or rather you, or rather me now who was you then – but please listen when I tell you that nearly everything you think is fundamental to your identity will be turned on its head in about ten years’ time, so please just try to avoid anything doing anything irreversible until then. (Though there’s nothing you can do that can’t be solved)

    How does being a Christian change this week?

    I won’t look at her.
    I won’t go out that night.
    I will apologise for that comment.
    I will change what I read.
    I will change what I write.
    I will change what I say.
    I will ask for help.
    I will ask Jesus for help.
    I will be sorry when I wouldn’t before.

    What do you love most about Jesus?

    He loved me when I hated him. -but parents do that(!)-
    He died for me when I hated him. -oh, erm…-
    He LOVES me when I know him and, sometimes, still hate him for it.
