Take Me To Church

With apologies to: Hozier and Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC:
My God’s got a sense of humour
He’s Lord of the wedding and Lord of the funeral
Courts no man’s approval
I should’ve worshipped Him sooner
Listened when the Heavens spoke
Said Jesus is the Father’s true mouthpiece
Every Sunday’s a reminder
Fresh grace for each week
‘We were born sick,’ my heart screams it
My church offers hope and healing
Tells me ‘I’m more than what I do in the bedroom’
The heaven I’m going to
Is knowing myself loved by You
I was born sick, but I hate it
Command me to be well
Amen. Amen. Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a bride of the One who died
I’ll tell you my sins. In His blood they will hide.
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, you have given me life
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a bride of the One who died
I’ll tell you my sins. In His blood they will hide.
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, you have given me life
I’m a pagan of the worst kind
But my lover’s the Son
Promises not to leave my side
He offers the sacrifice
Turns down the whole world
Gets something more precious
Offers Himself for the main course
That’s a fine looking king on the cross
Born in the stable
Dies for the starving faithful
For the hungry
He is plenty
This is all His work
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a bride of the One who died
I’ll tell you my sins. In His blood they will hide.
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, you have given me life
A crucified lord when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter master than our gentle king
From the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
The God who was made human
The God who makes me clean
Amen. Amen. Amen
Take me to church
I’ll worship like a bride of the One who died
I’ll tell you my sins. In His blood they will hide.
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, you have given me life.

This is fantastic!! I love Hozier and I love your take on his words- I might even start singing these lyrics along when the song comes on the radio.
:-) My version doesn’t scan very well. But the gospel’s got the best tunes..
